Director of Undergrad Creative Writing & Associate Professor of English

The Department of English at the University of Iowa invites applications for a Director of Undergraduate Creative Writing and Associate Professor of English. We seek a dynamic writer and teacher who works in any genre or in multiple genres. This is a tenured position. Teaching will be at the undergraduate and the graduate levels, with a normal load of two courses per semester. This position requires committee responsibilities that contribute to the management of our English and Creative Writing major, the department, and the university.


Required qualifications: MFA in Creative Writing and/or PhD degree in English, Comparative Literature or related field in hand by the start date or equivalent professional experience; evidence of expertise in creative writing and contemporary literature; evidence of effective teaching at the university level; a strong record of publication with a book of poetry, nonfiction or fiction in print. Demonstrated commitment to diversity in the educational community.


Desired qualifications: experience in program and/or department administration; a publication from a prospective second book; demonstrated ability to teach a literature course.
