The Writing, Rhetoric & Digital Studies department at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte seeks an outstanding leader-teacher-scholar with energy and vision to serve as the Director of the Writing Resources Center (WRC), beginning July 1, 2022.
The WRC fosters a culture of writing across campus. The Director works with a staff of 25-30 undergraduates, graduate students, and professional staff to serve 1,575+ students, faculty, and staff annually. With multiple locations across campus, the WRC provides over 4,000 conferences, face-to-face and online, and offers more than 50 workshops annually. PhD or EdD (at time of appointment) in Rhetoric & Composition or closely related discipline
Demonstrated success in writing program administration
Record of effective teaching of college-level writing
Scholarship in writing center studies or related field
Experience working effectively with multicultural and otherwise diverse groups of people
Evidence of collegiality and a commitment to work collaboratively as part of a supportive team
Ongoing commitment to social justice, diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility
Demonstrated success and ongoing interest in First-Year Writing, learning science, writing pedagogy, emerging media, and innovative technologies of digital communication
Leadership experience in writing program administration, particularly building a successful writing major
Expertise in writing across the curriculum
Potential to secure external funding
Conduct research, teach, and participate in service appropriate to the position of EHRA program administrator
Teach the seminar on writing center research, theory, and pedagogy
Develop and foster relationships across campus in support of the WRC
Recruit, hire, and provide ongoing education, training, and professional development for writing tutors across the disciplines
Demonstrate a commitment to linguistic diversity, including recruiting and retaining multilingual tutors
Design and implement workshops and programs in collaboration with WRC staff
Manage budget and identify funding opportunities
Engage with the Writing, Rhetoric & Digital Studies department to advance the undergraduate minor and major
Collaborate with the Department of English to recruit and mentor Graduate Teaching Assistants and other graduate students tutors
Collaborate with UNCC’s Communication Across the Curriculum Program to develop and coordinate support for the teaching and learning of writing campus-wide
Maintain ongoing Graduate Faculty status in WRDS
Maintain a daily presence in the WRC and engage in the center's programs
Develop and implement assessment plans

The WRDS department engages in teaching, research, and service in rhetoric, composition, and digital communication. WRDS is home to an exemplary First-Year Writing Program, the Writing Resources Center, and an emergent undergraduate minor and major.
