Assistant Professor of Spanish

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Dartmouth College seeks to appoint a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor, to begin July 1, 2022. Field of specialization: Cuba and the Caribbean, with an emphasis on the Black Diaspora in the region; any historical period and any form of cultural production, such as literature, digital media, visual culture, music, or performance. Qualified candidates will need to demonstrate how their research and teaching in this field intersects with critical studies of race, gender, sexuality, and class. Applicants who work within a transnational frame are encouraged to apply. A strong theoretical foundation and native or near-native fluency in Spanish are required. In addition to teaching courses in their area of expertise, all faculty members are expected to teach all levels of literature, culture, and language and participate in the department’s extensive study abroad programs. Our faculty regularly collaborate with other departments and programs, such as the Latin American, Latino, and Caribbean Studies Program, the African and African American Studies Program, the Comparative Literature Program, and the Women’s, Gender, and Sexualities Studies Program. We also collaborate with colleagues through programming and initiatives at the Leslie Center for the Humanities and the Consortium for Studies in Race, Migration, and Sexuality. Faculty in Spanish and Portuguese are engaged in mentoring undergraduate and graduate students as well as postdoctoral fellows from underrepresented groups through the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship Program and the Provost’s Fellowship Program.
