Associate Professor in German Studies

The Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures at Washington University in St. Louis seeks a tenure-track faculty member at the rank Associate Professor. Successful candidates will have a strong grounding in German literary and cultural history, an outstanding record of publication, teaching, and service, and expertise in one or more of the following areas: 1) translation studies, 2) media studies, 3) digital humanities, 4) nationalism, ethnicity, and race. We are especially interested in applicants with experience in interdisciplinary research collaboration and an appetite for shared inquiry. The new faculty member will teach courses across the graduate and undergraduate curriculum as well as in other programs and will be expected to play a significant role in shaping the future direction of the department. Additional d uties will include conducting research, writing for publication, advising students, participating in department governance, and university service. The position requires a Ph.D. degree and native or near-native proficiency in German and English. Any appointment with tenure will be contingent upon a tenure review.
