Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Composition and Rhetoric

Pepperdine University’s English Program seeks to hire a tenure track Assistant Professor in Composition and Rhetoric with a specialization in Rhetorical Theory. Candidates with additional expertise in at least one of the following areas are strongly preferred: Global Rhetorics, Writing Studies, Digital Humanities, Social Action and Justice. This is a tenure-track position beginning August 2022. (Strong) Preference will be granted to applicants with a completed doctoral degree at the time of application; all candidates must have completed their PhD by August 1, 2022.

Position responsibilities will include teaching first-year composition and courses in the Writing & Rhetoric major. All candidates will have a preference and demonstrated ability for undergraduate teaching, a willingness to collaborate with colleagues in other disciplines, outstanding oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and an active commitment to the university's Christian mission and the mission of Seaver College.

Located near Los Angeles in Southern California, Pepperdine University is especially interested in candidates who can contribute through their teaching, research and service to the diversity and excellence of the University and our surrounding community. Application materials must include: letter of application, C.V., three current letters of reference (one letter should specifically address the candidate’s teaching), transcripts of all graduate work, teaching philosophy statement, a statement detailing the candidate’s scholarly agenda, a thoughtful reflection by the applicant on the University’s Christian mission, and a writing sample of approximately 20 pages.
