The Department of English and the African American Studies Program at the University of South Carolina seek a fiction writer. This is an open-rank, tenured or tenure-track joint position for a writer with teaching expertise in creative writing and African American literary and/or cultural studies. The successful candidate will contribute meaningfully to our fully funded MFA Program and to our undergraduate degree in African American Studies through courses that build on the hire’s strengths and interests. (The teaching load in English, which will be the tenure home, is typically 2/2.) Rank is dependent on qualifications and experience, but all candidates must have a terminal degree in creative writing (MFA or PhD) by time of appointment (August 16, 2022), demonstrated teaching ability, and a strong record of publication, including at least one book published or under contract with a trade or academic publisher.
