VISITING LECTURER OF ENGLISH

Spring 2022

Scripps College, a women's liberal arts college with a strong interdisciplinary tradition, invites applications for the position of Visiting Lecturer of English. The successful candidate will teach two courses, “Readings in American Literature” and “Seminar in Literary Theory.” “Readings in American Literature” is a required introductory course for English majors that emphasizes close reading. "Seminar in Literary Theory" is an upper-division survey of twentieth- and twenty-first century theories of interpretation that is also required for the English major. We seek applicants with significant undergraduate teaching experience and doctorate in hand; ABD candidates will be considered.

Applicants should submit a letter of application, curriculum vitae, and the names of three professional references to Prof. Michelle Decker, Chair of the English Search Committee, at mdecker@scrippscollege.edu. Review of applications will begin on October 15, 2021 and continue until the position is filled.

Scripps College is one of the seven members of The Claremont Colleges cluster located 35 miles east of Los Angeles. In keeping with its ongoing commitment to build and support a diverse and equitable academic community, Scripps College actively encourages applications from women and members of historically underrepresented groups. Preference will be given to applicants committed to improving higher education for underrepresented students.
