Arabic Lecturer

The Department of Classics and Mediterranean Studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC)  is seeking two full-time lecturers in Arabic.

Duties:

Each lecturer will  teach a total of six courses over two semesters. The primary responsibility for each position will be Arabic language instruction (beginning to advanced) but may also include the development and teaching of courses in English that focus on Arab culture and its interaction with others. Existing courses include the Heritage of Muslim Iberia, Arabic Literature in Translation, and the “Reel” Arab. One of the positions will include coordination of the Arabic basic language program. The positions will begin Fall 2022 and may be renewable.

Qualifications:

The candidate must have at least a Master’s Degree (Ph.D. preferred) in a related subject and have expertise in teaching Arabic. Native or near-native competence in Arabic is required. Previous teaching at the college level is preferred.

For the program coordinator, prior experience in language program development and management is required.
