The Department of French and Italian at Vanderbilt University invites applications for a full-time Senior Lecturer in Italian to begin in August 2022. The non-tenure-track position is a three-year appointment with the possibility of renewal conditional on institutional need and instructor performance. Senior Lecturers teach a 3-3 course load, advise students, participate in and/or lead extra-curricular activities, and may perform administrative duties as needed. A superior level proficiency in Italian is required. Senior lecturers teach all levels of undergraduate Italian language, may assist in beginner and intermediate level Italian course coordination; keep abreast of current trends in second language acquisition and foreign language pedagogy; stir interest in Italian culture by structuring their language teaching around intersections with Italian literature, music, cinema, and the arts in general.
PhD in Italian or Applied Linguistics earned by August 15, 2022 required, native or near-native command of Italian and English as well as documented success in teaching Italian language courses at introductory and intermediate levels. Special consideration will be given to candidates with a demonstrated ability to contribute to the growth of the program.
