Assistant Professor of German

Valparaiso University invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of German (tenure-track), in the Department of World Languages and Cultures (www.valpo.edu/world-languages-and-cultures/), beginning August 2022. The successful candidate will teach all levels of undergraduate German language and culture, business German, and writing-intensive, first-year seminars conducted in English, typically involving 3 courses per semester, plus additional research and campus citizenship activities. 

Candidates should have a Ph.D. (ABD considered) in German or a closely related field. Area of research specialization is open, with special consideration for expertise in a period before 1900, environmental issues, and/or regional dialects. Candidates should be generalists who are prepared to help build an engaging, theme-based curriculum, emphasizing communicative proficiency, past and present culture, and diversity, including experiences of marginalized people. Requirements: scholarly promise, native/near-native fluency in German and English, and demonstrable commitments to excellent teaching and fostering inclusion.
