Department Chair and Associate Professor or Professor (tenure-track) of Humanities

Job Description

The Department of Humanities at Texas A&M International University seeks a Department Chair and Professor or Associate Professor Humanities (tenure-track, 12-month position) to begin Fall 2022.  Responsibilities include oversight and management of the Department of Humanities, which encompasses academic programs in English, History, and Spanish, with minors in Creative Writing (English/Spanish), Philosophy, Translations, Women and Gender Studies, and Writing and Rhetoric; the department also has a master’s degree in History and Political Thought, and participates in a Collaborative Ph.D. Program in Hispanic Studies with the Texas A&M University System. The department has twenty-nine full-time faculty members. The Department Chair reports directly to the Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences, teaches one class a semester, and serves on a 12-month appointment. 

Required Qualifications:

The successful candidate must hold an earned doctorate in English, Philosophy, Spanish, History, Literature, or any major typically encompassed within the field of Humanities. All specializations within Humanities are open.  The candidate should also have an active scholarly agenda, be committed to mentoring department faculty, and committed to undergraduate and graduate instruction, scholarship and publication, grant writing, and service to the university and community.  A minimum of five years of experience in teaching, research, and service is required.  The successful candidate should also have experience with department level administration, ideally including program building, program assessment, and mentoring of junior faculty.
