Lecturer Position in Hispanic Studies

The Department of French, Hispanic, and Italian Studies at the University of British Columbia (Vancouver) invites applications for a full-time Lecturer position in Hispanic Studies. The anticipated start date is July 1st, 2022.

The full-time teaching load for a Lecturer in Arts is 24 credits per year (typically expressed as eight 3-credit courses across the 12-month period of appointment, with four weeks of annual leave) and service assignments. The successful candidate will be responsible primarily for teaching undergraduate language courses in Spanish at all levels of the undergraduate curriculum, with the possibility of also teaching introductory courses in literature and/or culture. Service responsibilities may include: student advising and placement, curriculum development, and service on administrative committees as assigned by the Head.

This is a full-time position for an initial term of three years, including a probationary first year. Lecturer positions are appointments without review (i.e. non-tenure track), renewable for successive terms, subject to availability of funds and demonstration of excellence in teaching and service, in accordance with the Collective Agreement between UBC and the UBC Faculty Association.

Requirements: Ph.D in Hispanic Studies, Spanish, or an equivalent relevant field. Candidates must have excellent written and verbal communication skills in Spanish, as well as a good command of English, and must be able to demonstrate competence in second-language pedagogy, technology-assisted instruction, and knowledge of current issues and methods in teaching Spanish as a second language. A good understanding of CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) teaching and assessment practices is an asset.
