Edward W. Said Professor in Comparative Literature

Edward W. Said Professor in Comparative Literature
University of California Los Angeles

Requisition Number: JPF06872

The Department of Comparative Literature at UCLA is seeking to hire a colleague at the level of full professor, an outstanding scholar and teacher who will also occupy a four-year term as the Edward W. Said Professor in Comparative Literature. We seek senior comparatists of international stature who work across disciplines, languages, and cultures. We are especially interested in scholars who bring anticolonial perspectives to the core literary and theoretical traditions of Europe, engage with non-European fields of knowledge, and/or examine the global literary and critical legacies of early-modern or modern European empires. We are looking for candidates who are sensitive, in the Saidian tradition, to the worldly entanglements of the humanities and demonstrate concern about the future of our disciplines and humanistic practice more broadly. Applicants should have a PhD in Comparative Literature or a proximate field and should have a distinguished record of publication and teaching appropriate for appointment at the level of full professor.

We welcome candidates whose experience in teaching, research, or community service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and excellence. Women and underrepresented minorities are encouraged to apply.

Applications should be submitted online via UCLA Academic Recruit. Applicants should submit a letter of interest—addressed to the Edward Said Chair Search Committee, chaired by Professor Aamir Mufti—a current CV, research agenda, the names and contact information of up to five referees, and a statement addressing past and/or potential contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Review of applications will begin on November 1, 2021, and continue until the position is filled.

We want you to be aware that effective April 22, 2013 UCLA is a tobacco-free environment. For more information,http://www.adminpolicies.ucla.edu/app/default.aspx?&id=810
