Job Summary:
The Department of English at the University of San Francisco invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position in African American and/or Black Diasporic Literatures to begin Fall 2022, contingent upon funding approval.

Full Job Description:

Job Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to teach and develop introductory and upper-division courses in African American and American literature for English majors and minors, as well as surveys for non-majors and first year student seminars (i.e. general education). The expected teaching load for this position at USF is two 4-unit courses per semester with an additional third course every fourth semester (2-2-2-3 over two years). In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to engage in service to the department and college, as well as maintain an active research program that engages students when possible.

Minimum Qualifications: include a Ph.D. in Literature or related field earned by August 2022 (applicants with degrees outside of literature—American Studies, for example—should be conducting their research in literature); a strong record of teaching at the university level; evidence of scholarly activity in literature; and an understanding of and commitment to support the mission of the University of San Francisco. The successful candidate must be able to offer their reflections on equity, and strategies for success in engaging with BIPOC students.
