Writer in Residence

The English Department at Clemson University invites applications for a new distinguished Writer-in-Residence position. We seek a creative writer with an exceptional publishing record (genre open) who has received national recognition for their work.

The successful appointee will normally teach one course per semester, mentor undergraduate and graduate students, contribute to the intellectual life of the department, and make public presentations. The appointee will otherwise have ample time to write.

This is a one-year visiting position (with the possibility for renewal for a second year), salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The English Department supports a thriving literary culture, organizing visits from writers, publishing the South Carolina Review (SCR), and hosting the annual Clemson Literary Festival, which draws writers and audiences from across the country.

Clemson is an R-I land grant institution located in upstate South Carolina—a global university with a mission to serve the diverse communities of our state. In 2016 Clemson inaugurated Clemson Forward, a strategic plan to strengthen its research profile, diversity, and workplace quality of life. The English Department has taken a leading role in pursuing these goals by confronting legacies of violence and nurturing traditions of political and intellectual organizing on our campus. For this reason, the search committee is especially interested to hear from candidates who bring to their writing and teaching the diverse perspectives that come from non-traditional educational backgrounds or an understanding of the experience of those under-represented in higher education.

Application Procedures: for full consideration please submit a cover letter outlining your interest in and qualifications for the position and a copy of your curriculum vitae to Interfolio by October 29, 2021
