Tenure-Track, Assistant Professor of English

The English Department of the University of North Alabama invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor beginning in fall 2022. The successful candidate will have a PhD with an emphasis in Rhetoric or Writing Studies and an ability to teach in film/media studies or sociolinguistics.  We are also interested in candidates who can contribute to our current Black Studies and Film Studies minors.  Teaching responsibilities will be in first-year writing with the opportunity to teach in our undergraduate concentration in Professional Writing and the MA in Writing program.  Teaching experience and evidence of publication or scholarly potential are required, as well as a PhD in hand by the time of appointment.  Duties will include a 4/4 full-time teaching load in addition to advising, scholarship, and service, and other duties as designated by the Department Chair.  Applications must be submitted by November 1, 2021. The University of North Alabama is the state’s oldest public university and sits on a beautiful 130-acre campus in historic Florence, Alabama.  Florence is located within a four-city area on the banks of the Tennessee River known as the Shoals, which is steeped in arts, culture, and entertainment—and is home to the famous Muscle Shoals Sound.

Minimum qualifications include: PhD with an emphasis in Rhetoric or Writing Studies is required by the time of appointment; ABD candidates will be accepted, provided the PhD program is complete by Fall 2022; Ability to teach in film/media studies or sociolinguistics is required; Candidates who can contribute to our current Black Studies and Film Studies minors are desired; Teaching experience and evidence of publication or scholarly potential are required.
