Assistant Professor of British Literature and Culture, 1870–1940

The English Department at the State University of New York (SUNY) College at Cortland invites applications for the position of tenure-track Assistant Professor of British Literature and Culture, 1870–1940, to begin August 2022. Expertise in transnational approaches is preferred. Additional interest in race, the environment, or visual and material culture is encouraged. The teaching load is three courses per semester and will include introductory, advanced, and graduate courses.

THE DEPARTMENT: One of the largest departments on the SUNY Cortland campus, the English Department is composed of approximately forty faculty across four programs, Literature, Professional Writing, Adolescence Education in English, and Composition with eight of these faculty teaching in the literature program.  The department offers three majors: English, Professional Writing, and Adolescence Education in English and serves approximately 200 majors and minors and 20 graduate students in addition to supporting students in other education programs. With small class sizes, our faculty get to know our students well, with additional opportunities to work with students outside the classroom through research or through our department clubs.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Ph. D. by the time of appointment with specialization in British Literature and Culture, 1870-1940, record of teaching excellence, and evidence of scholarly potential required. Expertise in transnational approaches is preferred. Additional interest in race, the environment, or visual and material culture is encouraged.
