The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Emory University invites applications for two faculty positions, beginning in August 2022, at the level of either assistant or associate professor. Candidates at the full professor level with proven leadership and administrative experience will also be considered. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g., Spanish, Portuguese, Hispanic Studies, Latin American Studies, Latinx Studies or related discipline or interdisciplinary degree) by time of appointment and have native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and/or Portuguese and English. We are especially interested in candidates whose research and teaching address issues of race, ethnicity, and indigeneity in the cultures of Latin America, Africa, Iberia, and/or the United States. Emory University places a high value on both teaching and scholarship, and the candidate must show experience with, knowledge of, and sensitivity to the needs of a culturally diverse student body. Of special importance is a willingness to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration with other departments and programs at Emory, such as African Studies, Anthropology, Global Health, Latin American and Caribbean Studies, and Linguistics.

At this time, we ask applicants to submit a cover letter including a discussion of their teaching, research, and service; a CV; a writing and research sample; the names and contact information for three references; and a statement of commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, student success, and working with a broadly diverse community, including relevant experience (max. 1 page). Candidates will be asked to submit additional supporting materials if selected to participate further in the recruitment process.
