Assistant Professor of Linguistics

The Department of English at Mississippi State University invites applications for a tenure-track position for an assistant professor specializing in phonetics, phonology, or sociophonetics to begin August 16, 2022.   Primary teaching responsibilities will include courses in phonetics, phonology, and general linguistics. Research focus is open, but scholars of languages and language varieties of the U.S. South are particularly encouraged to apply.

Our department has committed to sustained antiracist work in areas including hiring, curricula, pedagogy, and the recruitment and retention of students, faculty, and staff. This search is one of three departmental hires this year (also including creative writing and professional writing), which we hope will help us rethink our curriculum, leading to more inclusive pedagogy across the department.

Minimum Qualifications: The successful candidate must have an earned doctorate in Linguistics or a closely related field (or ABD with degree completed by 8/15/22), as well as college teaching experience. Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
