JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Department of English, Rhetoric and Writing at Berry College invites applications for two tenure-track Assistant Professor positions in literature and writing starting August 2022. We seek two teacher-scholar-mentors in complementary areas who will engage our students in courses focusing on Global/Ethnic literatures in English with expertise in postcolonial, diasporic, and/or indigenous studies. Applications are encouraged from candidates with innovative approaches to the field which may include: empire/race/colonialism, transnationalism, gender and sexuality studies, or environmental studies. Responsibilities will include courses in both our general education program and in the major. A commitment to teaching first-year writing is also needed. Opportunities will be available for curricular development and interdisciplinary teaching including courses for a developing ethnic studies minor. Ability to teach both American ethnic literatures and British literature is a plus.

The successful candidates will be joining a vibrant, engaging department with steady student enrollment. The department is housed in the Evans School of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences. Junior faculty at Berry have access to a wide range of professional development opportunities, including summer research grants, interdisciplinary teaching, generous support for conference travel as well as teaching workshops and seminars. Additionally, there are multiple opportunities in and out of the classroom for our faculty to develop meaningful mentoring relationships with our students such as fostering their development as research assistants through the college's LifeWorks program, guiding them in undergraduate research and Honors theses, and coaching them in the development of their capstone portfolios.

REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in English. ABD candidates near completion will be considered. Review of applications will begin October 30, 2021 and continue until the positions are filled.
