Associate Professor - Creative Writing in Spanish

The Department of Hispanic Studies at the University of Houston invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Creative Writing in Spanish at the level of Associate Professor beginning September 2022. Ph.D. and a strong publication record in the Spanish-speaking world are required. Additionally, extensive teaching record at the college level, including creative writing workshops, is highly desired. The successful candidate will teach creative writing and literature classes at the graduate and undergraduate levels, as well as mentoring students and directing dissertations. Teaching load 2/2. Native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English is required.  

 

The department is the first in the nation to offer a Ph.D. in Hispanic Studies with a concentration in creative writing in Spanish that supports Canal Press, the program’s independent press, and the María Jiménez Fellowships, which brings emerging and established authors to campus.
