Assistant Professor- Rhetoric and Writing Studies

The Department of English at The University of Texas at El Paso invites applications for a tenure-track, assistant professor position in Rhetoric and Writing Studies to begin Fall 2022. Preferred areas of expertise include Global Rhetoric and Visual Rhetoric with priority given to applicants with experience in border, non-western, and/or cultural rhetorics, social justice approaches to research and teaching, and anti-racist pedagogy. We seek a colleague who will work with the intellectual interests of our burgeoning population of international students in the RWS PhD program and build on the department's traditional strengths in Borderlands Rhetoric. The successful candidate will join a Rhetoric and Writing Studies program that, in addition to First Year Writing, includes a new Bilingual Professional Writing Certificate Program, an undergraduate Rhetoric and Writing Studies minor, a newly proposed undergraduate major in Technical Writing and User-Experience, a graduate Technical and Professional Writing Certificate Program, as well as master's and PhD programs in Rhetoric and Writing Studies.
Requirements:

  • A Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition, Rhetoric and Writing Studies, or a closely related field required at the time of appointment.
  • A demonstrated commitment to teaching and research excellence
  • Evidence of scholarship in the area(s) of Global Rhetoric and Visual Rhetoric
