1) Non-Tenure-Track Lecturer in Technical and Scientific Writing

The Department of Communication and Media at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute invites applicants for a 3-year, full-time lectureship in Writing beginning in May or August 2022. The ideal candidate will contribute to our expansion in the area of public communication about science and technology and, more specifically, the rhetorical, political, and ethical dimensions of discourse on health and the environment.

Applicants must have a Ph.D., Ed.D., or foreign degree equivalent in Writing or a closely related area and evidence of successful collegiate level teaching prior to their appointment. Responsibilities will include teaching three courses per semester and pursuing an active research trajectory.

2) Lecturer, Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)

The Department of Communication and Media in the School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute invites applicants for a non-tenure-track position in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) beginning Fall 2022.

Applicants must have a Ph.D., Ed.D., or foreign degree equivalent with certification in TESOL or a closely related area at the time of appointment. Applicants should have successful ESL and Intensive English Language Program (IELP) teaching experience at the university level in the United States and experience training international teaching assistants. Experience in language proficiency assessment and graduate-level teaching is strongly preferred.

Teaching responsibilities for this position include preparing non-native English speakers for Teaching Assistant roles generally aligned with their field of study, and teaching academic writing to international students. There is the possibility of teaching additional undergraduate and graduate courses in writing and oral communication for students whose native language is English.

The position also includes helping international students in the Center for Global Communication+Design with writing and oral presentations and training tutors in the Center to work with international students. Other teaching assignments may be made as needed by the Department or the Center for Global Communication+Design.
