ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF SPANISH
The Department of Romance Studies at Tufts University is seeking a tenure-track faculty member at the Assistant Professor level with scholarly and teaching focus in either or both Afro-Latin American and Indigenous literary and cultural studies.
The successful applicant would highlight the history and culture of communities of color in the Caribbean and Central America in their research and teaching. A knowledge of Brazilian culture and literary tradition would be beneficial. The historical oppression and recent resurgence and visibility of these African-descended and indigenous populations in our hemisphere make the integration of their histories and cultures into our curriculum a matter of urgency. This position will begin September 1, 2022.
Requirements: PhD in Spanish or related field; native or near native fluency in Spanish and
English required to teach some courses in Spanish and to engage with source material for both scholarship and teaching purposes; teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
