Assistant Professor of English

The English Department at Le Moyne College, located in Syracuse, New York, invites applications for the full-time, tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of English with a specialization in Black literature and culture to begin August 2022. During the first three years of this tenure-track appointment, the successful candidate will be awarded Le Moyne’s 75th Anniversary Endowed Professor of the Humanities, which provides a salary supplement, research budget, and course release per term (a typical 3-3 teaching load reduced to 2-2). In this position, the Assistant Professor will be required to teach literature classes for both majors and non-majors. The Assistant Professor will also design courses that diversify the English Department’s curricular offerings as part of a new English curriculum beginning in the 2022-2023 academic year. Research and teaching interests in Anglophone works produced by people from Africa and the African diaspora, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Caribbean, will be considered.

Qualified candidates must possess a Ph.D. degree in English or a related field by the position start date. ABD will be considered. Qualified candidates must also demonstrate a strong commitment to empowering students from communities underrepresented in academia through teaching, research, creative activity, service, and mentoring. Finally, qualified candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate education.
