Assistant Professor of British Literature

POSITION:

The Department of English invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. The person appointed to this position will teach in the area of British Literature ranging from the seventeenth century to the present as well as Post-Colonial or Comparative World Literatures. A general knowledge of British Literature combined with a particular interest in a given period of imperial expansion and colonial response is preferred. Additional duties will include advising and curriculum/program development in the undergraduate major. Effective teaching, scholarly productivity, and service to the department and university are required for retention, promotion, and tenure. This position is contingent upon the availability of authorized funding.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A Ph.D. in English, Comparative Literature, or related field is required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

As a department in a designated Hispanic-Serving Institution, we seek candidates with experience teaching and mentoring historically underrepresented students. A candidate’s consideration will be enhanced by providing evidence of work with a diverse student population. We also encourage applicants engaged in teaching and research that address themes of social justice, which may include critical/theoretical models such as critical race studies, LGBTQIA+ studies, indigenous studies, or ecocriticism.

CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CLEARANCE NOTICE:

 The university requires a criminal and/or child abuse background check to be completed for many of its new employees, current employees seeking promotional or transfer opportunities, and current employees assigned new duties. Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment.
