The Spanish Program in the Department of Modern Languages & Literatures at Union College is seeking a candidate for a three-year visiting position with engaging and deep cross-disciplinary research and vision, and preferably a focus on Central American, Andean, Peninsular, Chicanx, or Border Studies. We are looking for a person who can contribute to a redesigned curriculum through courses that bring Hispanic Studies in connection with other disciplines, including computer science, engineering, the social or natural sciences, or the medical humanities. Broad topics related to global challenges and/or race, diversity, equity, and justice are also very welcome. The candidate is expected to contribute to a dynamic undergraduate Liberal Arts program and demonstrate very strong language teaching skills and experience at all levels as well as interest in working closely with undergraduate students and in curricular development.
Appointment beginning in September of 2022. PhD in hand by August 2022. Candidates must have native or near native fluency in Spanish. Union College recognizes the rich possibilities of interdisciplinary studies by offering many opportunities for both faculty and students to engage with multiple disciplines - and each other - in collaborative classroom settings, innovative majors, and unique research initiatives. The successful hire will therefore be able to develop courses in their area of expertise that may contribute to environmental studies, global studies, computer science, cultural or media studies, among others.
Union College is an equal opportunity employer and strongly committed to student and workforce diversity. Union provides a blend of intellectual, social and cultural opportunities to facilitate the integrated academic, social and personal development of a diverse community. We value and are committed to a host of diverse populations and cultures including, but not limited to, those based on race, religion, disability, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, national origin and veteran status. Increasing diversity on campus is a critical priority for Union, one that is integral to our mission of preparing students for a globally interconnected world. Our goal is not only to increase diversity, but to support a diverse environment in which people from varied backgrounds can succeed and thrive. We welcome applications from groups that have been traditionally underrepresented in our fields.
Please upload a cover letter which includes ways in which your candidacy represents a commitment to the ideals of joining a community of diverse faculty, students, and staff, CV, graduate transcript, and a statement of teaching and research interests and any other related materials to http://jobs.union.edu. Please provide names and contact information for three references when you complete the online application. An email will be sent automatically to references requesting a letter of recommendation. To ensure applications receive full consideration, they should be submitted by November 22, 2021.
