Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Early Medieval Literature and Culture

The Department of English at Wake Forest University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Early Medieval literature and culture. We are especially interested in applicants who situate the early medieval in a global context; who work in critical race and ethnic studies; who adopt a robust and theoretical approach to this multilingual and multicultural field; who research how the pre-modern informs the modern, gender and sexuality, Old English as a language, and/or medieval feminisms.

The teaching load is nine courses over two years, including MA and upper-level major courses in Early Medieval literature and culture as well as Old English language and history of the English language courses; gateway to the major British Literature survey courses; introductory literature courses for non-majors; or first-year seminars. Applicants will be asked how they might teach courses that fulfill our racialization and racial formation requirement in the English major and contribute to our interdisciplinary Medieval and Early Modern studies minor. Candidates are expected to build on the Wake Forest English Department’s tradition of pedagogical innovation, commitment to students, and outstanding academic achievement. A 1-semester paid research leave is guaranteed before application for tenure. Applicants must have a PhD in hand by August 2022.  Salary is competitive.
