Assistant Professor in Contemporary European Literature and Thought

The Department of Comparative Literature seeks an Assistant Professor whose scholarship focuses on contemporary European literature and philosophy, preferably with a broad comparative background or a degree in comparative literature. The ideal candidate specializes in transnational or minoritarian literatures that take into account the diversity, migrations and shifting borders of contemporary Europe. We are especially interested in candidates who can frame the idea and the literatures of Europe within a continental philosophical tradition and who are knowledgeable about and responsive to critiques of Eurocentrism from within the field.  Scholars who have the ability to teach survey classes in 20th and 21st century continental philosophy as well as specialized courses in contemporary literature and local thought are especially encouraged to apply. Teaching load 2/2; expectation to teach one graduate seminar a year. Linguistic specialization is open; multilingualism preferred.

The Department of Comparative Literature is committed to building and sustaining an inclusive and equitable working and learning environment for all students, staff, and faculty. Our programs welcome undergraduate and graduate students that are local to New York State, national, and international. They form a diverse community in terms of ethnicity, race, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, religion, and disability challenges. Our faculty, international and diverse as well, values the variety of perspectives, backgrounds, and commitments that our students bring, and strives to foster a lively and respectful environment for intellectual dialogue.
