North African Francophone Studies, Tenure-track Assistant Professor

The Department of French at Connecticut College invites applications for a tenure-track, assistant professor position in North African Francophone Studies to begin July 1, 2022.

 

All thematic approaches are welcome, with particular attention to expertise in the fields of colonialism/imperialism, migration, feminism, gender, sexuality, Arabic, and Islamic Studies. Candidates will have demonstrated experience in the reading and analysis of a variety of cultural modes of production particularly literature in many genres, but also film and screen, music, visual and graphic art, and possibly others.

 

The successful candidate will regularly offer courses in French language at all levels, which support the College’s World Language requirement. They will also offer courses in their interests, expertise, and research areas in French and in English. All faculty participate in the College’s Connections program, which may include the offering of a First Year Seminar in English. The faculty member in this position will participate in one or more academic programs outside the French Department and other participation in the program, including Global Islamic Studies, Africana Studies, Gender, Sexuality and Intersectionality Studies, and Film Studies.

 

We seek a colleague who is an excellent teacher, an engaged and productive scholar, and enthusiastic about working closely with students in a liberal arts context. At the time of official appointment, candidates must have a Ph.D. in French. After a first year of teaching 2-2, tenure track faculty teach 3-2 (5 courses total in the 2-semester academic year). Salary is competitive. Preference will be given to candidates with the teaching experience and scholarly record that would mean they could be hired with a shortened tenure clock.
