Instructor of German Studies

The Department of German and Russian Studies at the College of Charleston invites applications for a full-time position at the rank of Instructor of German, beginning August 16, 2022. We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated teacher-scholar with demonstrated excellence in teaching German as a foreign language and a strong commitment to equitable and inclusive teaching. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in foreign language teaching and interest in teaching interdisciplinary courses in English in fields such as Film and Media Studies, Cultural Studies, Game Studies, Environmental Studies, Medical Humanities, Disability Studies, Gender Studies, and Migration Studies. Interest in teaching German for the Professions is a plus. 

The Instructorship is a renewable position. During the sixth year, the candidate undergoes review for promotion to the rank of Senior Instructor. The position is benefits-eligible; the salary is competitive. 

4/4 course load. A Masters degree in the discipline is required at the time of appointment, Ph.D preferred, with at least 2 years of full-time collegiate teaching experience. The position requires native or near-native fluency in German and English.
