The Classical and Modern Languages and Literatures department at Texas Tech University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in Spanish, specializing in contemporary Latin American literature and cultural studies to start fall 2022. With over 40,000 students, Texas Tech University is listed in the Very High Research Activity (R1) category. It is also a Hispanic Serving research institution.
We are interested in specialists in contemporary Latin American cultural production with intersectional approaches to texts, performance, and visual culture. Preferred focus areas include Afro-Latin American Studies, Indigenous Studies, or Critical Race and Ethnic Studies. Environmental humanities as a secondary focus would be a plus. Teaching with creative methodologies also a plus.
Native or near-native fluency in Spanish is required. Responsibilities include an ongoing program of research and a commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching. Experience mentoring and working with diverse student populations and first-generation students is highly desirable, and a vision for contributing to diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives is expected. Service to the department, college, and university is expected. The opportunity would also exist for contributing to our newly-formed Latin American and Iberian Studies Center housed in the Latina/o Studies Institute. Preference will be given to candidates who have the proven capacity or clear potential to bring externally sponsored research to Texas Tech University. Must have a PhD in hand by beginning of appointment.
