Assistant Professor - American Literature

The English/TESOL Department at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls invites applications for a full-time, tenure track position in American Literature at the Assistant Professor level to begin August 2022. The successful candidate will have experience in and demonstrate a commitment to student-centered, liberal arts instruction and will teach a variety of American literature courses, including surveys and period courses.

Teaching responsibilities will also include composition and other literature courses. We are particularly interested in a person well versed in both print and nonprint text. The interest in and ability to teach General Education courses is essential.  The English Department fully recognizes the continuing need to serve General Education courses to all UWRF students. Expertise in literature is applicable to the teaching of English 100 and 200 as well as English 105/6/7 (Humanities/Fine Arts), along with several additional American Cultural Diversity courses in American literature. We also recognize that tenure-line faculty bring both greater ability and greater commitment to the General Education program.

Colleagues in the department teach a normal load of eight courses a year. Within that load, teaching in the General Education program (including writing, literature, ethical citizenship, American cultural diversity, and global perspectives) would comprise some of the successful candidate’s courses with the opportunity to contribute, in the form of redesigned or new courses, to incrementally reshape academic programs in a collegial atmosphere.

The successful candidate will also be expected to stay abreast of research in their field of study, maintaining an active research agenda, and fulfilling service responsibilities within the department and at the college and university levels.
