Xavier University seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor of English specializing in American Literature (19th C expertise preferred) to fill a position beginning Fall 2022. The successful candidate will also teach lower-division literature courses focused on issues of ethics/justice. Teaching load for research-active faculty is 3/3.
We welcome a broad spectrum of candidates to apply, particularly women, Black, Indigenous, People of Color, and other minoritized community members who are under-represented in the profession. Candidates who have worked with a diverse range of faculty, staff, and students and who can contribute to our mission of inclusivity are encouraged to identify their experiences and interests. Teaching experience in ethnic minority literature is highly desirable.
Candidates should have completed all requirements for a PhD in English Language and Literature or a closely related field by September 2022.
To ensure consideration, applicants should submit a cover letter, c.v., graduate transcripts (unofficial transcripts acceptable at initial stage), and 1-2 page teaching philosophy that explicitly addresses diversity in teaching on Xavier University's website. Three letters of recommendation should be submitted to EnglishAmericanistsearch@xavier.edu. All applications must be submitted by November 15, 2021. Interviews of selected candidates will be conducted via Zoom in mid-December, and we hope to bring finalists to campus in mid-January.
