Assistant Professor of Spanish

 Assistant Professor of Spanish - Lyon College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Spanish beginning in August 2022. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Spanish by the time of appointment, a native or near-native command of Spanish and English, a strong background in teaching lower-level Spanish courses, evidence of teaching effectiveness, a commitment to scholarly research, and an understanding of the unique nature of teaching at a small liberal arts college. The course load includes teaching the introductory Spanish sequence every semester, intermediate and/or advanced courses in conversation, composition, literature and Spanish for the Professions. Candidates are expected to develop and implement service-learning courses through the surrounding community, as well as to supervise internships at a future Latinx Museum/Cultural center in Batesville. Other responsibilities include advising, committee service, assessment, and community service. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.

 

Lyon College is a private, selective liberal arts college affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). It is located in Batesville, Arkansas, a safe and historic town of 10,000 that serves as a commercial, medical, social, and governmental hub for an eight-county area. The College currently enrolls approximately 700 undergraduate students from 25 states and 11 foreign countries.  Entering freshmen have an average high school GPA of 3.5 and an average ACT composite of 24.
