Assistant Professor in African American Folklore and Literature

The Department of English at Georgia State University invites applications for a tenure-track colleague in the field of African American folklore and literature at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 2022. The candidate will teach a wide range of courses in African American literature at all levels and folklore courses at the undergraduate level; direct graduate student research; and collaborate with colleagues in the department and college to develop interdisciplinary programs of study. 

At the time of appointment, applicants are required to have a Ph.D. in Folklore, Literature, African American Studies, American Studies, Cultural Studies, or a closely related field. The successful applicant will have academic training in folklore, as demonstrated through completion of academic training in folklore and/or relevant scholarly experience in the discipline.

  • Research statement describing the candidate’s published and forthcoming scholarship, as well as their planned future agenda in literature and folklore
