Overview
The English Department at Utah State University invites applicants for a full-time, academic-year, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Technical Communication and Rhetoric (TCR). Within the field of TCR, preferred areas of research specialization include social justice, environmental justice, rhetorics of health and medicine, or intercultural communication. The position is available August 2022.

The successful applicant will join a cohort of incoming faculty across departments as part of a university-wide effort to foster scholarship invested in diversity, equity, and inclusion and to provide community and support for scholars engaging in research and pedagogy focusing on social justice.


Responsibilities

 

 

  • The successful applicant will maintain an active research agenda and publication record in technical communication and rhetoric or related fields;
  • be professionally active in the field;
  • participate in university and scholarly service;
  • and contribute to the English BA/BS emphasis in Technical Communication and Rhetoric, the online Master of Technical Communication, and the PhD program in Technical Communication and Rhetoric.
  • The teaching load is research supportive: 2/2 load.
  • Candidates should be prepared to teach both traditional and online graduate and undergraduate courses on topics such as user experience (UX), editing, ethics and social justice, project management, and communication technologies.

 


Qualifications

 

 

 

  • Applicants must have earned a PhD in technical communication, rhetoric, or a related field by August 2022.
  • The successful candidate will have a proven record of excellence in research and teaching.
  • Applicants whose work includes a critical perspective that comes from the lived experiences of members of historically underrepresented groups in the United States and scholars from diverse racial/ethnic backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.
