Assistant/Associate Professor - Japanese

The Department of World Languages Literatures and Cultures at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position (#124220) at the rank of assistant/associate professor in Japanese. The start date for the position is August 1, 2022. The position is contingent upon funding.

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in and commitment to both scholarly research and teaching, as well as the ability to teach all levels of undergraduate courses. Responsibilities include teaching courses in the Japanese language at all levels as well as in the candidate’s specialization (e.g. Japanese literature; translation; culture; film and media; language acquisition; linguistics; professional Japanese; etc.), working collaboratively to further the development of the Japanese program, conducting and publishing research in the area(s) of specialization, participating in departmental and university service, and other duties as assigned. Candidates should be proficient at native or near-native levels in Japanese and English.

A terminal degree in Japanese, East Asian Studies, or Translation Studies by appointment date.
