Department Chair

The Department of World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures invites applicants for the position of department chair (#124005). Applicants must be eligible to meet the criteria for the rank of either associate professor or professor. Expedited tenure upon appointment possible. The start date is August 1, 2022.

The successful candidate will lead a department that offers undergraduate degrees in French, German, Japanese, and Spanish; an MAT in French, German, and Spanish; a concentration in teacher licensure; elementary and intermediate levels of seven other languages; and contributes to several interdisciplinary minors. The department seeks candidates who are committed to DEI and emphasize collaborative leadership and the ability to manage quotidian operations while focusing on long-range plans to foster growth and sustain quality programs. The successful candidate will prioritize excellence in teaching, have a distinguished record of scholarship, and have a commitment to equitable student success. In addition, the successful candidate will have demonstrated leadership abilities, strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills, and provide advocacy for diverse student and faculty concerns.

A terminal degree in a foreign language taught at Middle Tennessee State University or a closely related field. Candidates with prior administrative experience—including management of budgets, experience with assessment for learning improvement, and interest in recruitment and fundraising will receive special consideration.
