The Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures at the University of Delaware is seeking a Continuing-Track Assistant Professor of Spanish and Pedagogy/Second Language Acquisition to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Spanish and Pedagogy and take a leadership role in DLLC’s language education programs.

QUALIFICATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in hand in Spanish linguistics or Spanish applied linguistics with a focus on current trends in second language acquisition research or pedagogical theory and practice; superior or distinguished oral and written proficiency in Spanish and English; and a minimum of one year of college-level teaching experience as the instructor of record. Experience with course supervision and the supervision of Undergraduate and Graduate Teaching Assistants is desirable. Experience with directing study abroad programs is welcome.

In addition to supporting DLLC’s and UD’s core mission to train and support educators in the state of Delaware, Spanish Pedagogy, World Language Education, and Heritage Language pedagogical methods constitute some of the most exciting areas of growth potential in DLLC. There is increasing demand for our existing undergraduate programs and there is great opportunity for the development of new online graduate programs in Spanish pedagogy and teacher certification.

Continuing Track faculty at the University of Delaware have teaching-focused appointments with varying levels of service; interdisciplinary or scholarly interests that complement and enhance the classroom experience are desirable. We seek a CT Assistant Professor who will also be able to teach our pedagogy and second-language testing courses as well as the core intermediate and upper-level grammar and oral communication courses.

Additional responsibilities:
Provide oversight and leadership to DLLC’s internal World Languages Education Committee (WLEAC); advise DLLC SPAN pedagogy undergraduate and graduate students; serve as sequence supervisor for  the 100-level Spanish program.

The Spanish program offers B.A. and M.A. degrees, with courses ranging from language and literature to culture and civilization, including oral communication and composition, phonetics, Business Spanish, Spanish Reading and Writing for the Sciences, film, and theater.
