Assistant Professor of English & English Program Director

The Medaille College Department of Interdisciplinary Studies invites applications for an Assistant Professor of English who will also serve as the Director of the English Program. We seek a colleague with expertise in multicultural literature of the United States to begin August 2022. This is a 12 month position with teaching responsibilities beginning annually August 15 and ending June 15. The position is non-tenure track. The initial appointment to the position will be for a one-year term, with consideration for a longer-term appointment thereafter.

To be considered, applicants must hold a PhD in English or American Studies (dissertations must be defended by the end of 2021 at the latest) with a research emphasis in multicultural literature of the United States. The course load for the English Program Director is 4-4 (with further course releases possible for major departmental service), and at least half of this load will be first-year composition courses. The candidate will be expected to teach surveys of U.S. literature and multicultural literature of the United States. Candidates who can develop new “Dialogue” courses for our general education program are a plus.

Medaille College seeks to hire faculty with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching, student success, and civic engagement, and who understand the educational benefits of ethnic and racial diversity in the campus community. The candidate will demonstrate openness to social justice, multicultural mentoring, and interest in working with diverse populations. We seek candidates with experience and passion for working with first-generation college students and students of diverse backgrounds. We need educators committed to closing equity gaps and employing culturally relevant pedagogies in the classroom.

Medaille is a growing, private, four-year, liberal arts-based college in Buffalo, New York, serving the educational needs of a diverse student body in Western New York and Southern Ontario through a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs (www.medaille.edu). We value diversity, equity, and inclusion and are eager to welcome a new colleague who shares those values.

Complete applications submitted on or before the priority deadline of November 30 will receive full consideration, but we may review applications until the position is filled. Please submit a CV, a cover letter, a statement of teaching philosophy, confirmation of dissertation defense by end of 2021 (through unofficial copies of graduate transcripts confirming PhD or a letter from your dissertation chair confirming dissertation defense date by end of the year), and contact information for three references electronically to Barbara Bilotta, Director of Human Resources. Together, these materials should showcase your teaching experience, your ongoing research commitments, and your commitment to diversity and inclusion. Please refer to www.medaille.edu/jobs to apply. No phone calls please.

Medaille College invites applications from all qualified individuals.  We are committed to a diverse faculty, staff and student body and we support faculty development within a collegial team atmosphere.
