Assistant Professor of Spanish and French

The Modern Languages Department at Carthage College seeks a teacher/scholar for a full-time, 3-year renewable contract position as Assistant Professor of French and Spanish beginning August 2022. Required qualifications: Superior level in both French and Spanish, doctorate or ABD from an accredited college or university, as well as a demonstrated commitment in the areas of Francophone and Hispanic Culture with a strong interest in language teaching. Preference will be given to specialists in non-European cultures, such as Francophone Africa or Caribbean Studies.

Duties will include teaching language and content courses at all levels in French and Spanish and participating in departmental as well as divisional and college-wide efforts. While Carthage is primarily an undergraduate institution offering language majors in French, Spanish, German, Japanese, and Chinese, this position also includes responsibilities for mentoring international graduate students as they teach language courses and complete their master’s theses. The successful candidate in this position will also have opportunities to design and teach new courses in areas of specialty that contribute to Carthage’s liberal arts curriculum.
