The English Department at Eastern Illinois University invites applications for a full-time lecturer in creative writing, with primary expertise in fiction writing. Candidates with a secondary area of specialization in any area of English studies are welcome. The successful candidate will teach creative writing in our undergraduate and MA programs, as well as additional areas of specialty as appropriate. The lecturer will also share in the work of advising MA and undergraduate honors students who write creative theses. Some (but not all) of our creative writing classes are taught online, so the successful candidate must be interested in teaching online workshops.
Service to our various reading series, annual literary festival, or our faculty-edited literary magazine or creative writing related student organizations is optional but welcome. The position begins August 16, 2022.
A doctorate in English is required by time of appointment. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and experience with promoting inclusive excellence are required.
