Advanced Assistant/Associate Professor of Dramatic Writing

Emory University's Creative Writing Program and Department of Theater and Dance invite applications for an Advanced Assistant or Associate Professor of Dramatic Writing to begin August 2022. Four courses a year: a combination of Introduction to Dramatic Writing and various levels of playwriting, with one or more of these courses fulfilling Emory’s Race and
Ethnicity core curriculum requirement, mentorship of two playwriting postdoctoral fellows, and supervision of the Playwriting joint major. Other possibilities (especially for those applying at the Associate Professor rank) include serving as Director of the Playwriting Center of Theater Emory and/or curator for its biennial Brave New Works play laboratory—charged with bringing together faculty, regional and national playwrights with theater artists to support the development of new work at Emory. Activities leading to tenure and promotion include premiere and remounted theatrical productions, manuscript publication, writing commission and/or fellowships, as well as script development activities. Other areas of dramatic writing activity could include film or television activities via solo or team-written scripts, production, and eventual presentation via broadcast and/or distribution, including film festivals and web publications.

This hire would also be expected to lead joint initiatives between Creative Writing and Theater Studies (curricular and co-curricular) and be an engaged participant in the Emory College Creative Writing and Theater communities.

We are interested in candidates with a commitment to working with a remarkably diverse student body in an inclusive learning community that values excellence in teaching and close student-faculty interaction. Emory University is an equal employment opportunity and affirmative action employer. Women, minorities, people with disabilities, and veterans are
strongly encouraged to apply.
