Position Summary: The Department of English in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas invites applications for a tenure-track Advanced Assistant or Associate Professor in Rhetoric and Composition to direct its undergraduate writing program, and to join the department in fostering a campus culture of writing. The position starts July 1, 2022, and is a 12-month appointment.

 

This position involves coordinating and promoting a new minor in rhetoric and writing as well as a new concentration in rhetoric and writing within the English major. The appointment also requires teaching two courses per year, directing theses and dissertations, and participating in service to the department, college, and university.

 

In overseeing the writing program, the director will have the support of the faculty in rhetoric and composition and one full-time staff member (an assistant director), as well as a graduate assistant. The ideal candidate will have a strong record of publication as well as extensive experience with writing program administration and graduate-level teaching. The ability to collaborate with a diverse faculty and staff is essential.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

With submitted materials, the candidate must demonstrate:

 

  • Ph.D. in English, Rhetoric and Composition or related field
  • Record of high-quality publication in any area of rhetoric and composition
  • Experience with writing program administration
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching undergraduate courses in rhetoric and composition
  • Ability to collaborate with a diverse faculty and staff

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Experience developing undergraduate writing curricula beyond first-year composition
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching graduate courses in rhetoric and composition
  • Experience coordinating first-year composition
  • Experience training new teaching assistants
  • Expertise in writing program assessment
  • Experience teaching first-generation college students
  • Experience working with diverse student populations
