Assistant Professor of Spanish

The Spanish Section of the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor beginning July 1, 2022.  Although the primary scholarly focus in modern Latin American literature and culture is open, the faculty member may specialize in one or more of the following areas: race and ethnicity; Afro-Latin America; indigenous studies; and/or gender and sexuality. Individuals from historically under-represented groups are also encouraged to apply. As an assistant professor of Spanish within the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures, the successful candidate will be a core member of the Latin American Studies Program and will also have the opportunity to participate fully in the rich interdisciplinary culture of Wesleyan University, including the Center for the Humanities and the Center for Global Studies. The University offers excellent support for research and pedagogical innovation. 

Minimum Qualifications

PhD in Spanish, Latin American Literature, or a related field in hand by the time of appointment; native or near-native fluency in Spanish. 
Teaching load is 2/2:  two advanced seminars taught in Spanish and two (intermediate-advanced) language, literature, and culture courses. 

You will be asked to upload electronic versions of the items we require, which are a 1) a letter of application; 2) curriculum vitae; 3) a 20-35 page writing sample in English or Spanish; 4) a teaching statement. In the cover letter, applicants should describe how they will embrace the college’s commitment to fostering an inclusive community, as well as their experience working with individuals from historically marginalized or underserved groups.

You will also be asked to provide the email addresses of three referees from whom we may obtain confidential letters of recommendation (please double-check the accuracy of the email addresses of the referees you name to ensure that you have the most up-to-date email addresses for each one).

After you have submitted all of the required documents, you will see a confirmation number. At that point, each of your referees whose email address you have provided will receive an automatically-generated email requesting that he or she submit a letter of reference for you.
