Assistant or Associate Professor of English – Tenure Track
The Department of English at Bridgewater College invites applications for a full-time Assistant or Associate Professor of English with expertise in rhetoric and composition or writing studies starting August 2022.
Responsibilities for the position include teaching and developing composition and upper-level writing courses, including courses in editing, publishing, and writing for various professions, such as writing for business or writing for the sciences. Successful candidates will also have a secondary focus in American Studies or cultural rhetorics such as a specialization or research interest in the cultural rhetorics of African American, Latinx, Native American, or other traditionally underrepresented communities in the United States.
QUALIFICATIONS: Qualified applicants will hold a Ph.D. or other appropriate terminal degree (ABD considered) in Rhetoric and Composition, Writing Studies, or a related field. We seek applicants with strong evidence of successful teaching (particularly of diverse student populations), demonstrated commitment to collegiality and service, and a promising research agenda.
DEPARTMENT INFORMATION: The Department of English offers two majors (English and Professional Writing) and three minors (English, Professional Writing, and American Studies). The College is a member of NCAA Division III and the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, with 23 intercollegiate athletic teams. The vibrant residential campus is located in the town of Bridgewater, Virginia, near the city of Harrisonburg in the center of the Shenandoah Valley.
