We invite applications for a position at the rank of Full Professor. The Department of Germanic Studies at the University of Chicago seeks a colleague to join a program that emphasizes excellence in scholarship and teaching and maintains strong ties to neighboring disciplines in humanities, arts, and social sciences.

Qualifications

The position in question is an endowed professorship and we seek a candidate with a record of excellence in scholarship, demonstrated international presence in the field, and experience in the training and mentoring of junior faculty and doctoral students. The terms of the endowed chair specify demonstrated contributions to scholarship on the history of German literature and culture prior to 1900. Additionally, candidates should have fluency in literary, social, and cultural theory as well as in the German literary, artistic, theatrical, and philosophical traditions. We seek a candidate who will contribute not only to our departmental research and teaching agenda, but also to the culture of interdisciplinary cooperation at the University of Chicago.
