Position Summary:
The Department of Modern Languages (MDL) at Metropolitan State University of Denver invites candidates to apply for a tenure-track position in French, beginning August 2022. The successful candidate will become a full-time, tenure-track member of the MDL faculty teaching 24 credit hours per academic year; building and developing their own research, scholarship, and creative activities; mentoring undergraduate research; serving the department and university; and providing academic advising to students. Duties/Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in French. Their academic load will consist of 24 credit hours per year, or the equivalent. Specifically, they will deliver a full range of lower-division and upper-division courses, including linguistics-based courses and courses on French literature, culture, and history. This includes day and evening classes, as well as face-to-face, hybrid and/or online classes, as needed. They will also assist with the coordination of multi-section courses, including those with General Studies designations.

The successful candidate will be expected to maintain a regular agenda of research, adhering to the departmental guidelines on conference attendance, presentations, and publications for each level of review. The successful candidate will also actively contribute to shared governance at the institution, adhering to the departmental guidelines on service required for each level of review.

The University is particularly interested in applicants who have experience teaching and working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for under-represented groups.

Required Qualifications:

 

 

  • Native or near-native fluency in French and English
  • Ph.D. in French or related field conferred prior to the start of appointment (August 2022)

 


Preferred Qualifications:

 

 

 

  • Evidence of excellence in undergraduate teaching face-to-face, hybrid, and online classes, including delivery of General Studies courses in the field
  • Experience in proficiency-based instruction; capability in effective instructional technologies and teaching strategies; knowledge of national proficiency standards; interest in curriculum development including French for professional purposes; commitment to developing courses using Open Educational Resources.
