The State University of New York at Cortland seeks candidates for the tenure-track position of assistant professor, Rhetoric and Writing to begin August 2020.

This assistant professor will teach undergraduate writing at all levels, including required Professional Writing major courses (cortland.edu/profwriting). Candidate should demonstrate a commitment to equity, inclusion, and social justice, as well as a passion for teaching and mentoring students from diverse backgrounds and with all levels of skill and ability.


Required qualifications include a Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition or related field along with a record of teaching excellence and evidence of scholarly potential. Preference may be given to applicants with areas of specialization in genre, digital rhetorics, cultural rhetorics, materiality, or other related sub-field as well as those with teaching interest and background in scientific or public policy writing, rhetorical code studies, grant writing, or other related areas encouraged, as well as ability to teach across a wide variety of technologies and familiarity with publishing software such as InDesign; and/or experience teaching students from diverse backgrounds.
